What's it like to taste the flavors of your mother's childhood?

Hanoi, December, 24th, 2024

Joining us on today’s Taste of Hanoi tour is Rachael Chan and her adorable family. Rachael’s mother grew up in Hanoi and spent her childhood here before moving to Australia. That’s why when growing up, Rachael was surrounded by the warm, familiar flavors of Vietnamese dishes lovingly prepared by her mom. But today, she’s taking a journey with her own family - to taste the very dishes that shaped her mother’s youth. 🌟🍜

In the end, Rachael’s family had such a great time exploring Hanoi’s food scene! Even her little one, who’s usually a bit picky, absolutely loved the fried spring rolls and bánh rán Vietnamese donuts. 🥢🍩

When in Hanoi, you should definitely try bánh rán (Vietnamese donuts) and bánh gối (fried pillow dumplings)! 🥟🍩Rachael and her husband went for bánh gối, while their little one couldn’t get enough of bánh rán. And they all loved their choices! 😍

bánh giò nóng - pyramid rice dumpling

Here’s the look of the pyramid rice dumpling! Does it look like a pyramid? This pyramid is absolutely delicious! 🍙 The outside is soft, while the inside is packed with savory meat. Add a bit of soy sauce or chili sauce, and it’s gone in no time! 😋

bánh rán - Vietnamese donuts

These are the Vietnamese donuts that have won the hearts of so many foreign friends! 🍩✨ A crispy and sweet snack, truly the definition of happiness! 😍

nem rán - fried spring rolls

Crispy golden on the outside, with layers of ingredients inside - vermicelli, meat, onions (and more) - fried spring rolls are a true culinary delight. 🥢🍽️

Ending a delicious meal with Vietnamese sweet soup is truly the perfect finale. 🌸🍲 Rachael chose the lotus seed and longan sweet soup, while her husband went for the tapioca and almond sweet soup. Once again, they couldn’t get enough of the delightful flavors! 😋✨
