GIAO LĨNH - VIÊN LĨNH

Giao Lĩnh is considered the earliest version of Ao Dai Vietnam which is recorded, This is a style of shirt that appeared during the Ly Dynasty, characterized by a criss-cross collar, and has loose, relatively wide sleeves. cobbled. Giao Linh was often used as formal attire on important occasions, or became the official outfit of Vietnamese matrons during the Ly Dynasty.

ÁO TẤC - "FIVE-BODY TOP” WITH LOOSE SLEEVE

Áo Tấc, also known as Áo Ngũ Thân Tay Thụng- is a type of Áo Ngũ Thân (five-body top) with loose sleeve.

Ao Tac is also known as "Áo Ngũ Thân Lập Lĩnh Tay Thụng" ("Ngu Than" is a shirt made from 5 stems, "Lap Linh" is a standing collar - a standing collar and hugs the neck, "Tay Thung " means wide sleeves). Ao Tac is a type of formal dress in the Nguyen Dynasty, so it also has other names: ceremonial shirt, "ao thung", and can be worn by all classes.

Ao Tac is an outfit for both men and women, worn with long pants. It is usually knee-length or above the knee, with buttons on the right side (of the wearer). The front and back of the shirt are both made of 2 pieces of fabric, many people believe that it represents the bodies of the mother and father through a seam connecting the two bodies (called the "trung phung" line), in addition, there is a small shirt flap located on the inside, the front representing the wearer himself. According to the Asian perspective, children are always surrounded and protected by their parents throughout their lives, so every time they wear it, they need to remember the filial piety, devotion, nurturing and reciprocity of their parents. The shirt has five buttons, usually made of metal, stone, or plastic. The sleeves are wide and long, usually reaching or exceeding the hem. When folded across the chest, it forms a rectangle.

The Ao Tac may have patterns (dragon, phoenix, longevity, etc.), or be made of plain fabric, silk, brocade, etc. The Ao Tac can be worn with a turban for men or a turban for women. If possible, it should be worn with an inner lining shirt to make the outer shirt look more shapely and beautiful. Ao Tac can be combined with various accessories such as playing cards (for men), pearls, necklaces, bracelets, etc. (for women).

ÁO NGŨ THÂN TAY CHẼN- "FIVE-BODY TOP”

Áo Ngũ thân tay chẽn - "five-body top” is made of 5 body of fabric and has five buttons.

Áo Ngũ thân tay chẽn - "five-body top”

The Ao Ngu Than Tay Chen is the same as the Ao Tac of the Nguyen dynasty, the sleeves are simply smaller, hugging the arms and just reaching the wrist (Tay Chen = tight sleeves). The shirt also has the same characteristics and meanings as the Tac shirt: Five torsos, five buttons, center line, stand-up collar, etc.

The Ao Ngu Than Tay Chen can also have patterns (dragon, phoenix,...) or be made of plain fabric, silk, brocade... and be worn with a turban for men or a scarf for women. The shirt can also be combined with various accessories such as playing cards (for men), pearls, necklaces, bracelets, etc. for women.

If the Ao Tac helps create a highlight and impression for the wearer, then the Ao Ngu Than Tay Chen will be more convenient to use. The Ao Ngu Than Tay Chen can be considered the forerunner of today's modern Ao Dai.

ÁO DÀI

Áo Dài, which translates as "long shirt," is the quintessential national costume for Vietnamese women, known for its grace and sophistication. Worn for formal occasions, school, and work, the Áo Dài exudes a sense of cultural pride and elegance. The male counterpart to the Áo Dài is called the Áo Gấm.

With the development of the fashion industry and the effect of the globalization, nowadays, the modern Ao Dai Vietnam becomes more fashionable and more popular, but it still retains its traditional beauty and original form. Modern Ao Dai can be made from a diversity of materials and mixed with jeans or loose silk pants. Costume and evening-gown áo dài may have colorful designs with flowers, birds, and pictures. It can be said that ao dai is not only a costume that represents an entire culture, but also a constant inspiration for Vietnamese art.
